Berth 17 at the Southern Port to Be Rehabilitated to Expand Handling Capacity
National Engineers Complete Maintenance Work to High Standards at Lower Cost

The Sudan Sea Ports Corporation today held a ceremony to mark the commissioning of maintenance and rehabilitation works carried out by Sudanese technical teams, in the presence of Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Sief Al-Nasr Al-Tijani, the Governor of Red Sea State, a representative of the Minister of Finance, members of the council, and directors of the corporation’s general departments.
Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Director General for Civil Engineering, Engineer Nader Mohamed Ahmed, welcomed the minister, the Governor of Red Sea State and the accompanying delegation, and congratulated the corporation’s management and staff on the achievement.
He explained that the berth’s prolonged suspension had created significant operational challenges, noting that its recommissioning represents an important step toward improving the port’s operational efficiency and enhancing its capacity to receive and handle vessels.
He added that inspections had revealed the need to rehabilitate Berth No. 17 at the Southern Port. The corporation, he said, will immediately begin the required maintenance works, which will contribute to expanding the port’s handling capacity and improving its operational performance.
He also called on the Ministry of Finance to continue supporting the Sudan Sea Ports Corporation so that it can complete the maintenance and rehabilitation works to the required standards and in a manner befitting the importance and status of the country’s national ports.
For her part, Engineer Tahani Mohamed Ahmed, Director General of Civil Engineering at the Sudan Sea Ports Corporation, said the completed maintenance works represent a clear example of reliance on national expertise and demonstrate the corporation’s ability to implement projects efficiently, to high standards and at a lower cost.
She said the works were carried out by the corporation’s Berths and Beaches Department, describing the achievement as an important addition to the corporation’s record and a testament to the competence of its national workforce and its ability to meet engineering and technical requirements.
Ahmed added that the corporation had successfully completed the maintenance works by relying on the expertise of its national personnel and at a cost lower than initially estimated. She stressed that the challenges facing the work would not prevent the corporation from continuing to carry out its responsibilities with efficiency and professionalism.
At the conclusion of her remarks, she expressed her appreciation to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, the Director General of the Sudan Sea Ports Corporation and his deputies, all employees, and everyone who contributed to the successful completion of the maintenance and rehabilitation works.
She affirmed that the General Department of Civil Engineering remains fully prepared to undertake future assignments and continue its efforts to develop and rehabilitate port infrastructure, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and strengthening the role of Sudan’s ports in supporting the national economy.
