Sudan’s Central Bank Eyes AfDB Financing
KHARTOUM – Fjaj
First Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBOS), Mutasim Abdalla Al-Faki, held talks with the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group on strengthening financial and investment partnerships and expanding development financing opportunities, on the sidelines of the IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok.
The AfDB Group presented an initiative to mobilize US$20 billion over a four-year pilot phase starting in 2027, through central banks’ investments in a range of financial instruments. The initiative also includes arrangements to enhance local-currency liquidity and provide technical assistance in reserve, asset and treasury management.
The Group stressed that the initiative does not impose any financial obligations on central banks, with participation remaining subject to each institution’s decisions and priorities.
Al-Faki reaffirmed CBOS’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the AfDB Group, noting that the bank would study the proposals, including opportunities for financing, technical assistance and liquidity management, in support of Sudan’s financial stability and economic and development priorities.
